The MOTU 112D is an incredibly flexible device. A digital audio interface, router, format converter, and stand-alone mixer — all in a roadworthy, rackmount 1U chassis, the 112D connects to your host computer through ultra-fast Thunderbolt technology, AVB Ethernet, or class compliant, high-speed USB 2.0 (with USB 3.0 and iOS compatibility). The 112D rocks 24 channels of AES/EBU digital I/O, 24 channels of ADAT optical digital I/O and 64 channels of MADI — that’s a whopping total of 112 simultaneous digital I/O channels! Freely route anything, anywhere — all with near-zero latency. At Sweetwater, we’ve seen our share of feature-packed interfaces, but the 112D may just take the cake. Whether you work your audio magic in the studio or onstage, you owe it to yourself to check out the MOTU 112D.

Audio Quality

112 channels of simultaneous digital audio I/O: Comprehensive input, output, routing and format conversion

The 112D provides 24 channels of AES/EBU I/O, plus 24 channels of ADAT optical I/O, Plus 64 channels of MADI I/O. That all adds up to 112 in and out, for 224 simultaneous channels digital audio I/O. All input and output channels can be active simultaneously.

64 channels of MADI

Convert MADI to Thunderbolt, AVB, AES/EBU and optical- all simultaneously

The 112D serves as a flexible 64-channel MADI interface, router and converter with near- zero latency and flexible routing/splitting to and from the AVB network, computer, AES/EBU and optical formats. The 112D supports both 64-channel MADI at 1x sample rates, along with 32 channels at 2x and 16 channels at 4x.

24 Channels of AES/EBU and ADAT

Three 8-channel banks ach at sample rates up to 96 kHz

Three 8-channel D-sub connectors supply 24 channels of AES/EBU digital I/O at sample rates up to 96 kHz. Three 8-channel ADAT banks provide 24 channels of optical I/O at rate up to 48 kHz. At 88.2 or 96 kHz, all six ADAT banks support 4-channel SMUX operation for 24 channels of optical I/O at 2x sample rates.

Flexible routing, splitting and format conversion

The 112D is your flexible digital audio matrix router and converter

With one click on the 112D’s routing grid, you can send any input to any output, or multiple outputs. This includes routing to and from the computer, plus any devices on the AVB network. Convert any format to any other.

Ultra-low I/O latency

State-of-the art latency performance

Every digital audio workflow has some latency. The only question is, how much? In the case of the 112D, the answer is, not much at all. In the 112D, latency is measured in a handful of samples, from the time an audio signal first goes digital to its arrival somewhere else (to an output, the mixer, or the computer). By keeping latency this low in the hardware, the 112D helps minimize latency introduced by your host software.

Thunderbolt technology

Plug-and-play ease with massive bandwidth

Thunderbolt lets you connect displays, hard drives, and other peripherals to your computer, along with the 112D, and the thunderbolt bus won’t even break a sweat. But more importantly, Thunderbolt gives you an astonishing 256 channels of computer I/O (128 in and out). You can use them to route audio to the physical inputs and outputs on the 112D, plus the 48-channel mixer inside the 112D, plus audio network streams. The 112D is the first and only interfaces to combine thunderbolt I/O connectivity with AVB audio networking.

Audio class compliant USB 2.0

Broad compatibility with future-proof connectivity

Don’t have a Thunderbolt-equipped computer yet? Hi-speed USB 2.0 provides across-the-board compatibility with pretty much all laptops and desktops. The 112D is USB audio class compliant, which means you enjoy OS-level USB compatibility and support, including iPad support (with a camera connection kit). Since USB 2.0 devices are compatible with USB 3.0-equipped hosts, your 112D interface is a future-proof investment in your studio.

48-channel digital mixing

Control up to 12 separate stereo mixes

The 112D is equipped with a 48-channel digital mixer designed just like a large format mixing console. The 48 inputs can take signal from anywhere: the physical inputs on the 112D interfaces itself, audio channels from host software on your computer, audio network streams, or even mixer outputs. The mixer outputs. The mixer provides 7 stereo aux busses, 3 groups, a reverb bus that can alternately serve as a 4th group, a Main mix bus and a separate Monitor bus that can serve as a solo bus. In essence: comprehensive and transparent mixing.

Modeled analog EQ and compression

Vintage processing with 32-bit floating point precision

British analog mixing consoles are renowned for their musical EQ profiles. 112D meticulously models these classic EQs to give you the very same, magical EQ response found on these coveted desks. Each input channel also provides a classic compressor module with optional peak/RMS operation. Groups and the Main Mix bus are equipped with MOTU’s Leveler™, an accurate model of the legendary Teletronix™ LA-2A™ optical leveling amplifier, known for its unique and highly sought-after Automatic Gain Control (AGC) characteristics.

System expansion and audio networking

Expand your system with more I/O and Wi-Fi control

The 112D network port delivers AVB Ethernet, the new industry standard developed by the IEEE for professional audio networking. Add a second MOTU AVB interface (24Ai, 24Ao, 1248, 8M,16A or Monitor 8)  with a simple Cat-5e or CAT-6 ethernet cable.

System expansion and audio networking

Expand your system with more I/O and Wi-Fi control

Connect up to five MOTU interfaces using a MOTU AVB Switch (sold separately).

System expansion and audio networking

Expand your system with more I/O and Wi-Fi control

Build a network with multiple interfaces and computers using standard AVB switches and network cabling, with ultra-low network latency, even over long cable runs (100 meters point to point). Stream hundreds of audio channels among devices and computers on the network.

It’s an AVB Ethernet audio interface

A new era of audio interface connectivity is here

Looking for an alternative to USB for computer audio I/O? If you have a recent Mac running OS X Yosemite(10.10) or later, you have another option: AVB Ethernet. Connect 112D’s Network port to the Ethernet port on your Mac with a standard CAT5e network cable (100 meter point to point), and you can use 112D as a standard multi-channel audio interface with any Core Audio compatible host software.

Web app control

Control everything from your laptop, tablet and smartphone

The software that you use to control the 112D doesn’t reside on your hard drive. It’s a web app served from the hardware itself. This means you can control the 112D  on-board DSP, mixing, devices settings and network audio routing from the web app software running in your favorite web browser on a laptop, tablet or smartphone connected by wire or Wi-Fi to your local area network. Use any web client on any platform- Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android- as long as it shares the same network.

Stand-alone mixing with wireless control

Control everything from your iPAD or iPhone

Connect an Apple Airport or other Wi-Fi router directly to the 112D with a standard Ethernet cable and control the 112D powerful mixing and DSP effects from your smartphone or tablet, without a computer. Great for live sound mixing!
