Steingraeber & Sohne A 170

Steingraeber‘s smallest grand A-170 sounds much bigger than it is and has many awards to prove it, including “Best in its Class”. Thanks to the provision of a “proper” bridge it is the only salon grand piano in the world which directly transmits vibrational energy, just like large concert grands. A-170’s roots can be traced back to Steingraeber’s instruments in 1905.

A-170 – The salon grand piano. The constructive roots of the A-170 date back to 1905. We don’t see our smallest grand piano as a baby grand, because the many awards as “best in its class” boast that it sounds much bigger than it is. Physically, this phenomenon is due to the unusually wide shape of the A-170, which allows very long bass strings.

As the only top-class salon grand piano, it transmits the vibrations directly, just like the large grand pianos, thanks to a “real” bridge without an auxiliary bridge that makes small grand pianos sound nasal.

The variety is also professional and so the A-170 is used as a concert grand on cramped stages, universities or opera houses – such as in the fascinating Oslo Opera House.
